I am writing this letter in response to the events of the 9th of June, when an Indymedia Argentina correspondent, Alejandro Goldin, was brutalized by the police in the course of covering an even outside the Brukman factory in Buenos Aires. This action does neither justice to your police force, your city, nor your Nation.

This winter, myself as well as several of our film team had the rare opportunity to spend three months with the journalism collective Indymedia Argentina, of which Alejandro Goldin was part. We were there shooting a feature documentary on this group, and it is with warm feelings that I reflect on their openness, courage and professionalism.

Unfortunately the same can not be said for the forces of security- as evidenced by this and many other attacks on journalists in the recent months. These crimes will not go un noticed, neither in our film, nor by the international community at large. A free society requires the free distribution of information and communication. It is the only way through which a people can walk forward into a more democratic and just society.
The continued attack upon journalists, by security forces is clearly a step backward.
