Marcha sobre Washington
Por Tábano - Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003 at 3:40 PM

The response to the Vote No! emergency campaign has been overwhelming. Hundreds of thousands of people have sent emails, phone calls and faxes telling Congress to Vote No! to the $87 billion for more war, occupation and corporate profiteering. In the first hours of the campaign announcement by VoteNoWar, thousands of e-mail letters were dispatched by users of the on-line service at VoteNoWar.org telling the politicians to stand up to Bush's illegal war program.

Members of Congress are reporting a huge surge of opposition coming from the grassroots. But while Congress is feeling the heat, we can not and are not waiting for Congress to stop Bush. Only the people can do that. Only the people stopped the war in Vietnam. It was the people's movement that won union rights, civil rights, women's rights. When the people are committed and act with determination, change can happen. We must make ourselves seen and heard in collective action in the streets.

The Bush administration's pro-war and anti-people program is galvanizing wider and wider opposition throughout the country. On October 25 this growing opposition will see its most dramatic manifestation since the huge anti-war protests of last winter and spring. If you are outraged with Bush's lies, arrogance, and criminal conduct be sure to support the October 25 demonstration.

Moving from their phones, emails, and faxes, VoteNoWar members are planning to come to Washington, D.C. on Saturday October 25 for a massive demonstration against the Bush program, the occupation and ongoing war in Iraq, and the Ashcroft assault on the Bill of Rights. We will march from the White House to the Justice Department. There are now more than 130 organizing centers that are arranging transportation from across the country, and if you haven't purchased your bus ticket or signed up for a car caravan, we urge you to do so today.

Please donate to support the October 25 mobilization and the movement against Bush's dangerous agenda. Mass mobilizations cost money for the hundreds of thousands of leaflets that are handed out and posters put up, the busses that are chartered, the logistical needs on the ground in D.C. Please help with whatever you can. You can use our secure server and donate online now by credit card by clicking here, or you can get the address to send a check by clicking here. We need to raise the money to make this mobilization possible and to carry out this important ongoing work.

Recent polls indicate how much progress our movement has made. There is a dramatic decline in support for Bush and his war in the U.S. A recent ABC/Washington Post survey, although focusing chauvinistically only on U.S. casualties, is nonetheless is a significant barometer of growing disapproval in the U.S. population. Asked about whether U.S. casualties in Iraq were acceptable or unacceptable, only 38 percent of voters view the deaths as acceptable, down from 66 percent in April and 44 percent in mid-July. Support for Bush's $87 billion request is opposed by 57 percent of voters. His public approval rating has dropped from over 70 percent in April to around 55 percent now.

Thanks to the work, support, and self-sacrifice shown by thousands of people, this movement is really making a difference. On Saturday October 25 there will be a huge outpouring of humanity outside the White House and in San Francisco demanding End the Occupation, Bring the Troops Home! Money for Jobs, Education, Housing, Healthcare Not War! Fight Back Against the Patriot Act!

In solidarity,

All of Us at VoteNoWar.org
