A new governement in Uruguay.
March 1, 2005 the newly elected Government of Uruguay wil be inaugurated. One of the guests will be Daniel Rey Piuma, former Tupamaro and resistance fighter against the Junta of Uruguay and Argentina in the 1970's, who fled his country to The Netherlands, where he became naturalized as a Dutch citizen; lately working as an Artdirector for the City of Amsterdam.
In recent years his former work as a spy in the Junta of Uruguay, where he collected crucial evidence of massacre and torture by the regimes of both Uruguay and Argentina at the time, was brought back to memory by controversies around the marriage of the Dutch Crown Prince with Maxima Zorreguieta.
The position of Jorge Zorreguieta, not as father of Maxima, but as former Minister of Agriculture of Argentina in of the most critical episodes of its Junta suddenly had suddenly become disputed from an unusual angle, also odd to Daniel.
The course of history has strange curves.
Daniel had held a one man demonstration on Dam Square in Amsterdam, being one of the only and last survivors of the former Resistance in his country against rightist suppression of his people. His intention had been to defend and uphold the historical truth, which had been pubicly denied, in his view, and to serve the course of objectivity and democracy in Uruguay and Argentina in the first place, but also in The Netherlands, and every other nation struggling with its history, and its destiny in this way.
This fact caused him to be arrested by the Dutch police for having offended the Monarchy, a case that ordinarily can never be won because of juridical immunity of the Royal Famiily.
Daniel was found guilty at first, but took his case to the High Court of Appeal. After a nearly two years trial he became the first in Dutch history to be relieved of all charges in such a case, since the laws concerning it had been written.
March 1 will inaugurate the beginning of a new era, now that a more just society for all may start without any further, official denial of the truth, and of those who have defended it on behalf of its adherents and their own people. The truth indeed is a matter of past, present and future, and in that order of appearance it has a great opportunity.

Historia breve
Daniel Rey Piuma es un ex integrante
(fotógrafo) de la Dirección de Inteligencia (creo que sería
algo así como la SIDE argentina) de Uruguay. En el post inicial
de este debate dice que era un "tupamaro" y que estaba como
"espía", esto lo dudo mucho y no lo he leído en libros sobre estos
temas.
El quia desertó de la Prefectura durante la dictadura militar
pasada y aprovechó para llevarse un montón de fotografías de cuerpos de
desaparecidos (principalmente argentinos) que aparecían en las costas
uruguayas.
Mi viejo me contó hace unos años que la historia que decían
los milicos era que los cuerpos eran coreanos que se amotinaban en el mar. Luego
se descubrió que eran los cuerpos de los famosos "vuelos de la
muerte".
Hasta donde sé, Daniel Rey Piuma NO formó
parte del aparato represivo y cuando pudo se fue del país, pero siempre ayudó a
las organizaciones de derechos humanos a tratar de encontrar la
verdad. Por ejemplo, el Comité de Familiares Detenidos Desaparecidos
publicó el libro "A Todos Ellos", donde nombran a muchos
policías y militares torturadores. Varios de esos nombres salieron a la luz
gracias a las denuncias de Daniel Rey
Piuma.
Libro
Publicó un libro que se tituló
"Los crímenes del Rio de la Plata" allá por 1981
(recordar que la dictadura uruguaya terminó recién en el '84) y también hizo una
declaración ante la O.E.A.
Crisis
diplomática
No se si recuerdan, pero en diciembre se armó un lio
(clásico de Batlle) porque el presi uruguayo quería nombrar
como agregado naval en Argentina al conocido represor Juan
Craigdallie y K se calentó ("no nos manden al
torturador"). Este Juan Craigdallie está mencionado en el
libro de Piuma, el que lo describe como "un torturador
salvaje".
Asunción de Tabaré Vázquez
Para la
asunción (ya faltan muy poquitos días!!!) de Tabaré Vázquez
como presidente están acreditados más de 1.000 periodistas
y vendrán cientos de personalidades (políticas, culturales, etc.) como
invitados especiales. Vienen Isabell Allende, Joan
Manuel Serrat, Fidel Castro, Hugo
Chávez, etc.
Por lo que leí en el post inicial de este debate,
parece que Daniel Rey Piuma también está invitado (el quia
parece que está viviendo en Holanda). Supongo que lo habrá
invitado el propio Frente Amplio o tal vez alguna organización
social.

Lo del portugues era una chanza, como para que tambien lo entiendan los progresistas de Lula.
La informacion que brindas creo es buena e importante, evidentemente que el tipo estuvo metido en un baile groso (mas bien una danza macabra) y lo que hizo sirvio para reconstruir la historia verdadera. Gracias por tu documentado comentario.
Lo que igual me queda en el tintero es de donde salio el articulo original en english.
Ya se acerca marzo y que todo sea para bien...

Olha, meninho, eu acho que Lula nao accesa a Indymedia Argentina, mais no siguente messagen de JAAP eu vou tentar traduzir ao portugueis (pelas dúvidas).
Como el 80% de los "artículos" publicados en Indymedia, el post original no presenta un autor, una fuente, nada que pueda indicar de donde carajo salió.
En realidad, ni siquiera sé si el post original (el publicado por JAAP) es verdadero o no, me quedan algunas dudas principalmente por la cantidad de errores de ortografía (y errores históricos) que tiene. Busqué en Internet por todos lados y no encontré textos similares (por ahora). Igual puede ser verdad.
De pique normás: "governement", "wil", "recent years his former work", etc., además de una gramática que se parece más a un tipo que escribe en español y trata de escribir en inglés.
¿Y qué es este párrafo?: "...being one of the only and last survivors of the former Resistance in his country..." ¿el único y último sobreviviente(s) de la resistencia???????
Además, el post en realidad se mete en una supuesta detención y procesamiento de Piuma por "ofender" a la Corona Holandesa y lo mezcla con el tema de Jorge Zorreguieta.
Por último, esta frase:
"March 1 will inaugurate the beginning of a new era"
Bue'... una cosa es estar contento por el triunfo del Frente Amplio y otra pasar a creer que Uruguay(!) va a inaugurar el inicio de una nueva era. El imperio yanqui tiembla!!!!! :p
