by 9pm, NYPD Police in riot gear attacked Occupy Wall St. protesters on Times Square. 15,000 people were present. Crowd not happy. Popo in riot gear retreated and the mounted police came in. Horse got knocked over. Riot cops on the move right now. More @ occupywallst.org (timeline of battle below) --What's happening in NYC is important. Cities governments are conferring with each other on how to handle Occupiers. Riot cops show the NYPD hotheads and businesses haven't given up the bull shit.

On October 15, police tried one violent attack after another in a futile attempt to either drive off or mass arrest up to 50,000 protesters marching on Times Square. Before the police were ordered back, one of their horses reportedly had to be "put down" after going down during a violent attack on protesters by mounted police.

NYPD arrests marcher for trying to leave area at about 9 PM, crowd reacts harshly

Video-horse cops violently attack marchers. This is very dangerous riding and could have sent the horse down even if nobody in the crowd counterattacked.

The video of the horse attack shows cops violently charging into a dense crowd on horseback. When one of the attackers went down with his horse, the crowd roared, no doubt with the exultation that comes only with military victory over an attacker.

This attack came on the heels of the riot squad, despite their armor protection, having to withdraw in the face of overwhelming numerical superiority.

With the horse cops defeated too, the NYPD then tried to simply kettle the crowd behind barricades, resorting to threats of arrest, and a smattering of arrests against protesters near the barricades. It didn't work, protesters at 6:30 PM were reported to be "charging" the barricades.

As of 8:11 PM, the crowd was roaring in victory as the cops were ordered to abandon their barricades and retreat. The NYPD Twitter feed complained that there was nowhere for the COPS to go. In other words, while the cops were kettling some of the protesters, the rest of the protesters many have managed to kettle the cops!

At 8:30PM, the police scanner reported riot cops out with orange nets headed for the crowd, but given the previous defeats of horse cops and riot cops using steel barricades, riot cops alone with nets would have a hard fight trying to arrest any large number of people, if the report is even true. There were 42 arrests reported at about 9 PM, so it look like the NYPD could have plans to attack individuals and small groups leaving the protest as I write this.

Twitter has censored updates from Occupy Wall Street, and the police, knowing their radios are being monitored, could easily be sending false reports like the ones sent over the Textmob during the 2004 RNC hoping to start a panic. I will uipdate this as fast as I can.

(Author's note: This is the first death I have heard of at a protest in the US since I was at the 2005 Biodev protests in Philadelpia, where a human cop died of a heart attack induced by the stress of beating a 10 year old boy with a billy club. Unfortunately the horse was not given the option of NOT joining the NYPD, so the human cops are responsible for the death of the horse no matter how it happened.)
