¿Existe o no existe éso? Éso no satisface.

“In the Beginning was the Word.”
Na Mu Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo

We were criticized and suffered persecution, but throughout all this, one thing remained unchanged. We kept chanting Na Mu Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo. This is one aspect of my mind that never wavered under any circumstance throughout my life. As a human being, I have always met my hardships by chanting Na Mu Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo.

Na Mu Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo is a word. The Bible describes the beginning of creation. It starts out saying, “In the beginning was the Word.” What was the Word? At this time, no one seems to be able to tell us what the Word is. We don’t know what this Word is. “…the Word was with God and the Word was God.” I felt this to be incredible. I feel that when the peoples of the world seriously ponder on this “Word,” they will come to chant the Odaimoku. If I am asked what this Word is, I am ready to answer without any hesitation that it is the single word of Na Mu Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo. I don’t know whether this would be accepted. The last judgment will be rendered by history.

I will bring this Word on my upcoming visit to the United States. You also chant the Odaimoku, but not many know what it is. If one chants to make a living out of monkhood or chants because one cannot make a living, one will eventually not be able to chant this Word with all of one’s heart. The Word will not live in such a person. “…the Word was with God and the Word was God.” This needs to be experienced in order to be comprehended. For the Word to be kept by a human being, the Word manifests as a human being. What is revered as noble about human beings lies in our capacity to keep the Word.

Humanity is now searching for “…the Word was with God and the Word was God,” because the fate of doom cannot be prevented by any person is approaching. We cannot remain unconcerned in the face of imminent ruin. Humanity must be saved. Seeking to be saved is to seek the “Word that was with God.” Is there or is there not such a thing? We don’t know. However, there is no other way but to seek it. If we are human beings who think, we cannot tolerate life that merely consists of eating to stay alive and eventually die. That is not satisfying. We must bring deliverance to all. We must offer the Word that has the power to deliver. This Word that is offered by humankind will, in itself, bring deliverance to humankind. Salvation comes in this form of God manifesting through human beings. Thus, we shall spread the Word.
