Las y los invitamos a participar de la charla “Derecho a la protesta y violencia institucional: del Indoamericano a Ferguson” que se realizará el jueves 4 de junio a las 18 hs. en la Universidad Metropolitana para la Educación y el Trabajo (UMET), Sarmiento 2037, CABA.

En el encuentro se debatirá sobre el derecho a la protesta, el uso de la fuerza para reprimir manifestaciones públicas, la militarización de las policías y la criminalización de los activistas y los referentes sociales en distintos lugares del mundo. Estas problemáticas están extendidas a nivel mundial y tienen, al mismo tiempo, particularidades locales. El debate reunirá a representantes de organizaciones que defienden el derecho a la protesta en sus países y partirá de sus experiencias en casos como la represión a la toma del parque Indoamericano en la Argentina; el asesinato de campesinos durante las protestas en Curuguaty, Paraguay; los 34 trabajadores mineros asesinados durante una huelga en Marikana, Sudáfrica; las movilizaciones de la primavera árabe, en Egipto y los recientes casos de violencia institucional en Ferguson, Estados Unidos, entre otros.

We invite you to attend a talk on "The Right to Protest and Institutional Violence: From Parque Indoamericano to Ferguson," which will be held on Thursday, June 4, at 6 p.m. at the Universidad Metropolitana para la Educación y el Trabajo (UMET), Sarmiento 2037, Buenos Aires.

The panelists will debate about the right to protest, the use of force to repress public demonstrations, the militarization of police forces and the criminalization of activists and social leaders in various parts of the world. These problems exist worldwide and, at the same time, have local particularities. Participants in the debate include representatives of organizations that defend the right to protest in their countries. They will speak about their own experiences in cases such as the repression of the occupation of the Parque Indoamericano in Argentina; the murder of peasants during protests in Curuguaty, Paraguay; the 34 miners massacred during a strike in Marikana, South Africa; the demonstrations during the Arab Spring in Egypt; and the recent cases of institutional violence in Ferguson, Missouri, among others.
